Finalists for the 2025 Port Angeles Community Awards have been named by the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

The awards gala is scheduled for Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at Field Arts & Events Hall, where winners will be announced.

Clallam County commissioners are expected to approve over $1.5 million in 2026 hotel-motel tax funding for tourism promotion, trail repairs, and major events, including $65,450 for the Olympic Discovery Trail (final vote on Jan.

20). Funding also supports local operations such as the Field Hall and the Dungeness Crab Festival.

Dr. Evan Small, the emergency department director at Olympic Medical Center, said process improvements have reduced wait times by 10 minutes and overall stays by 50 minutes — though staffing shortages, limited beds, and necessary transfers still slow progress.

Port Angeles lost 6 to 1 to Olympic in bowling with scores of 157 and 153 from top players.

The boys face Kingston at 7:00 tonight and the girls play in Kingston at 6:00, while KONP airs the Peninsula Pirates doubleheader against Bellevue tomorrow at 5:00 (pre-game starts at 4:45).
