Good morning, Port Angeles.

Peninsula College declared a financial emergency on Thursday as lower enrollment and state funding cuts led to a $1.8 million budget gap — $800,000 from reserves and $240,000 from the foundation helped address the shortfall while further staff cuts were planned after March 12.

The Department of Natural Resources warns that Bear Creek and Lyre River Campgrounds risk closure due to over $7 million in cuts, which reduced field staff to 60 + eliminated Conservation Corps support, prompting lawmakers to restore critical maintenance funding.

The Peninsula men's team lost 59-58 to Skagit Valley but clinched an NWAC berth following Shoreline's upset of Everett, while the Pirate women's team won 74-49 for its 53rd straight win and conference title — the men's team meets Treasure Valley on March 4 and the women's open on March 7.
