EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two and a half years after President Suzy Ames took charge, Peninsula College reversed a decade-long decline with enrollment increasing 20—30 percent each quarter and the transitional studies program growing 85 percent. The college introduced nine new programs and is planning to open a dental hygiene program in 2026 pending additional funding.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County commissioners discussed a one-tenth of one percent sales tax to fund nonprofit arts, heritage and cultural programs during a work session on March 25th — with Mark Ozias and Mike French supporting the idea while Commissioner Randy Johnson opposed it. They will draft a proposal with measurable outcomes — expected within the next month — and favor letting the board enact the tax rather than using a public vote.  My Clallam County
  • Clallam County commissioners received an update on pending legislative bills that might let local officials add a short-term rental tax up to 4% to fund affordable housing and raise property tax lids with state credits—Commissioner Mark Ozias said lawmakers plan to rework the property tax measure and noted that bills on utilities taxes and public defense funding are unlikely to pass.  Peninsula Daily News
