- ➤ On Sunday, Port Angeles residents can view the historic Rayonier No. 4 logging locomotive during a local event that starts at 3 p.m. in the library’s Carver Room, where historian Steve Hauff will share its history before taking a short walk to the display at Chase Street and Lauridsen Boulevard — part of ongoing restoration and fundraising efforts. - ➤ Environmental activists are using lawsuits, petitions, and public events to fight to protect legacy forests in the Elwha Watershed after timber sales were held last December. The new public lands commissioner has paused some sales for six months to review forest inventory—sales already approved will continue while communities and local Indigenous groups call for more forest safeguards. - ➤ Olympic National Park will host a coastal cleanup on April 19 where volunteers and park employees remove marine debris from beaches near Mora and Kalaloch. - ➤ The Port of Port Angeles is near completing its $11.03 million Marine Trade Center on a former mill site—Phase 2, which began last April, is now set to finish in July after delays in electrical equipment arrivals and will create about 115 jobs in five years. The port also signed a lease with Atlas Tower for 2,500 square feet on 18th Street to install a cellular tower, which will bring additional revenue, while new state proposals on tax exemptions may add costs to shipping and stevedoring businesses.
