  • Erran Sharpe will be the featured speaker for Story Swap today at 7:00 p.m. in the Raymond Carver Room (Port Angeles Main Library). He will share traditional wisdom tales from Europe and the Middle East after scheduled speaker Rebecca Hom canceled her visit due to health reasons.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, a Carlsborg resident named Caden Jackson was arrested in Sequim after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, barricading himself in an RV, and threatening officers with a crossbow—he was later booked on several charges with a bond set at $30,000.  My Clallam County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Port Angeles School Board approved the sale of $30 million in bonds to begin design work for a new high school and Franklin Elementary in May—splitting the bond sale helps avoid taking a full lump sum before construction starts. The board will issue the remaining bonds in December 2026 and has increased its capital budget to cover early contractor payments.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County is preparing to join America 250 (a nationwide commemoration) in 2026 after state officials urged local communities to rebrand events to fit the themes of We the People, The Power of Place, and Sharing History. Local leaders will join the national kickoff event, Two Lights for Tomorrow (lighting the Port Angeles courthouse bell tower in blue), on April 18.  My Clallam County
  • Port Angeles City Council is expected to approve a recommendation to award $163,000 from excess lodging tax funds to 11 organizations that were underfunded or overlooked in the original allocation—Port Angeles Youth Basketball will receive $90,000 and Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports nearly $19,000, with other awards going to Port Angeles Marathon Associations, North Olympic Baseball and Softball and Lincoln Street Block Party.  My Clallam County
  • Erosion near Kalaloch Campground has caused a temporary lane closure on U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 158—geotechnical engineers will inspect the site today to determine next steps.  Peninsula Daily News
