- ➤ The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society said in a letter that mistakes in running its Bark House, which housed too many dogs and had untrained staff, made the shelter unsafe and led to an eight-month closure starting in August 2024. The shelter now has 14 dogs waiting for adoption and improved practices through staff training and facility upgrades—helping it better care for at-risk animals and inviting community visits. - ➤ The Port Angeles School District announced a groundbreaking for a new middle school will take place on April 12 at 10:00 a.m. behind the current site at 1139 W 14th Street—voters approved a Capital Levy in 2020 to fund the project, which will begin construction this spring and open in 2027. - ➤ Mark Hodgson announced his candidacy to run for Position 3 on the Port Angeles City Council; Council member Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin (the current officeholder) endorsed him. Raised locally with a 20-year law enforcement career and service in the U.S. Navy, he said he will focus on public safety, affordable housing and economic development. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Corrections deputies Alexander Hamilton and Cameron Needham graduated from the Corrections Officer Academy at the state Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien. Hamilton, a Port Angeles High School graduate who worked as a truck driver, and Needham, a Sequim High School graduate who worked at Olympic Game Farm, were assigned to duties at the Clallam County Jail—continuing their roles in law enforcement. - ➤ Olympic Medical Center is looking at a plan to join Jefferson Healthcare and form a new group called Peninsula Health Alliance that would have a combined board with seven seats for Clallam County — giving them more votes — and five for Jefferson County. OMC said no final decision has been made and that meetings are kept private as they search for long-term stability, with a choice expected in May. My Clallam County

- ➤ On Tuesday, two Port Angeles High School sailing team members put out on the harbor and their small boat flipped in choppy winds. The program will host a regatta on Saturday and Sunday and offers low-cost sailing lessons to help teams compete for spots in the championships in Columbia Gorge on May 10-11. Peninsula Daily News
