ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews handled a house fire at the corner of East Blair Avenue and Still Road in Sequim early Monday morning just before 7:00 a.m.— they quickly put out the flames and rescued the homeowner and her dog with no injuries reported.  My Clallam County
  • A weekend structure fire destroyed a detached garage and nearby standing structures on Lower Elwha Road at 3:43 a.m. Sunday — crews from Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam County Fire District 2 responded quickly while investigators looked into the cause.  Peninsula Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kelly Kidwell, owner of Rite Bros. Aviation, announced plans to expand Port Angeles flight service as Citizen Air by adding jets and a fractional ownership model (which spreads costs and risks evenly) while keeping all current jobs. He will explain the plans on Wednesday (April 9) from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce.  Peninsula Daily News
  • A new grocery store called The Pine and Eight opened at Pine and Eighth streets in Port Angeles more than a month ago—offering local foods and art made by farmers and artists. It plans to host free events and expand its space—aiming to serve a local food desert and start accepting food stamps in the future.  Peninsula Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Port Angeles School District will break ground for a new middle school at 10 a.m. Saturday in the field behind Stevens Middle School at 1139 W. 14th St. Community members are invited to attend as the project—funded by a capital levy approved in 2020—will begin construction this spring and open in 2027.  Peninsula Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry told county commissioners that while influenza, RSV and COVID cases remained low, rising measles cases in Texas and a confirmed infant case in Snohomish have raised concerns. She warned that federal cuts to vaccination outreach and lab services—together with the loss of mobile testing—are now making contact tracing and outbreak response more difficult.  Peninsula Daily News
