  • John Strachan, a former deputy from Sequim who loved flight, will have his ashes sent into space later this year on a Celestis Memorial Spaceflight mission—his widow Jennie will travel to Cape Canaveral to watch the launch. One portion of his ashes will burn up like a shooting star while the other will remain in deep space.  Peninsula Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A log truck left U.S. Highway 101 on Tuesday at 5:59 a.m. near milepost 187 and went into a ditch, and its driver was taken to Forks Community Hospital—State Patrol cited fatigued driving as the cause.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men from Vancouver, Washington were arrested Friday after a drive-by shooting on the Lower Elwha Reservation when witnesses reported shots fired at a home on John Mike Road. Port Angeles police and other agencies stopped traffic along the Tumwater Truck Route—recovering two semi-automatic handguns and over $1,000 in cash—while both suspects remain in jail on $50,000 bail.  My Clallam County
  • Port Angeles police arrested two men on Monday just after midnight after a traffic stop linked to an April 2 incident when a man in a black Cadillac hit a woman riding her bicycle and tried to force her into the car—both men were booked on weapons, drugs, vehicular assault, kidnapping, and other charges, with one suspect having a past record of felonies.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Transportation is accepting e-bike rebate applications starting at 7:00 a.m. today until noon April 23 — the program will offer either $300 or $1,200 based on income eligibility and is funded by Climate Commitment Act revenues.  My Clallam County
  • Port Angeles commissioners approved a lease agreement with Citizen Air for fixed-base operator and fueling operations at William R. Fairchild International Airport—Citizen Air will pay $3,096 a month for a 10-year lease and $1,287 a month for fueling during an initial five-year period. The move supports its plan to expand fractional airline services with its first very light jet arriving in May—while the port also approved new equipment purchases and project management agreements to upgrade facilities.  Peninsula Daily News
