COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sequim will host the 24th Annual Kids’ Fishing Day on Saturday, April 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Carrie Blake Park’s Water Reuse Demonstration Pond where kids 14 and under must be with an adult and can keep two fish, with worms, power bait, and a fish cleaning station provided—sponsored by local groups.  My Clallam County
  • This Saturday, Port Angeles will host several Easter events for children as the 46th KONP Easter Egg Hunt begins at 9 a.m. at the Clallam County Fairgrounds for kids 8 and younger with registration starting at 8:15 a.m.—the Kitchens Family Community Easter Egg Hunt starts at 10 a.m. at Crescent School in Joyce for kids 10 and younger while the Easter Bunny appears downtown at the Laurel Street Fountain from 1 to 3 p.m. where local businesses offer Easter-themed activities.  Peninsula Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Clallam County family was forced to leave their home on Glass Road after a house fire just before noon on Saturday, and firefighters knocked down the flames in 15 to 20 minutes—officials said no one was hurt and the cause is under investigation.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Pharr (35) and Adriana Johnson (35) in connection with a burglary on April 8 in the 3000 block of South Mount Angeles Road—valuable music equipment and coins worth over $2,500 were taken and evidence from a recovered vehicle and surveillance video linked them.  Peninsula Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Port Angeles School District held a groundbreaking last Saturday for a new 87000 square foot Stevens Middle School that will serve sixth, seventh and eighth graders and open in fall as it replaces the 1972 building; eighth grader Juno Simonson said she is fine not attending because her class will already be in high school—officials noted local companies are prioritized for work.  Peninsula Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This Earth Day weekend, community groups will host events such as beach cleanups, seed exchanges and music festivals in areas like Port Townsend and Port Angeles. Volunteers can join cleanups in Olympic National Park (with scheduled registration) and participate in a seed exchange at the Forks Branch Library (no seeds needed to join).  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Angeles Clallam County Commissioners French, Johnson and Ozias sent a letter on April 1 to Senators Cantwell, Murray and Representative Randall warning that cuts in funding at Olympic National Park and fewer Forest Service staff risk poor park care, wildfire safety and local tourism. They urged officials to maintain funding for the planned Day Lodge at Hurricane Ridge and support veterans’ needs — measures needed to protect local services and businesses.  My Clallam County
