- ➤ On Thursday, five Clallam County residents will receive the 2025 Community Service Awards at the Port Angeles Senior—Community Center with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. The awards honor Heidi Simpson, John and Karolyn Burdick, Sherrilyn Phillips, and Paul Forrest for their significant volunteer work in the community. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a recent Port Angeles School Board meeting, principal Rhonda Kromm explained that the district’s special education services have grown to serve 658 students—projected to exceed room capacity next month—so a new classroom will be added this fall. - ➤ County officials will meet next week on the Peninsula for several hybrid sessions. Clallam County will hold meetings with Port Angeles officials at 11 a.m. Monday and with the Quileute Tribal Council at 1 p.m. Friday, while Jefferson County and other local bodies will discuss budgets, debris removal, water, and public safety + agendas are posted online for public comment. - ➤ Rep. Steve Tharinger of Port Townsend backed a new law to improve public access to Washington’s All-Payer Claims Database by removing an exemption for proprietary financial information.
