GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Sen. Patty Murray said she will work to keep the $80 million secured for rebuilding the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge available—protecting the funds amid federal budget challenges. The lodge, which burned in May 2023 and attracted about 300,000 visitors each year, will soon benefit from Clallam Transit System shuttle service resuming May 24. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ The Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities Department announced changes to camping services. Beginning in May, bundled firewood sales will be discontinued at Salt Creek and Dungeness campgrounds — campers will be directed to local sellers while cashless kiosks for campsite registration will be activated by Tuesday, May 27. - ➤ Repairs are under way on the Olympic Discovery Trail between Lees Creek and Morse Creek as crews repair 12 damaged sections caused by a January winter storm. The work began April 29 and will continue until May 16—alternative routes on Highway 101 are available during the closure. My Clallam County
- ➤ Port of Port Angeles took a low-interest loan of just over $520,000 from the state treasurer’s Local Option Caption Asset Lending program to cover last fall’s purchase of a 2024 Develon Log Loader and a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro. The port is saving money by earning more interest on freed cash than it pays on the loan — and it plans to use the program for future projects. Peninsula Daily News
