- ➤ A new Washington law signed on May 1 protects people who rescue babies or pets from hot cars from being liable for any damage—savvy rescuers must check that the car is locked, call 911 before entering, use only as much force as needed, and stay nearby until help arrives. The law covers domestic animals and declares that vulnerable persons are children or those unable to care for themselves. My Clallam County
- ➤ Local seniors held protests outside the Port Angeles Social Security office to warn that staffing cuts and policy changes—such as requiring in-person identity checks—could lead to longer wait times and delays in benefits that many rely on. Honeybee Burns and Janine Blaeloch expressed fears that these changes might force rural residents to drive extra miles for help and risk losing essential income as the trust fund nears insolvency.
