Ness, was fatally struck by a falling tree while working at a remote logging site south of Clallam Bay on May 9 at 6:30 a.m.—emergency crews from Clallam and Quileute agencies responded but he died during transport to a hospital in Port Angeles. - ➤ Sequim Police arrested a 57 year old man named Dale Jaff on May 9 at his home after more than a month of investigation following the April 9 Kitsap Bank robbery — he now faces charges for robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree and theft in the second degree. My Clallam County

- ➤ Clallam County Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Stanley issued a 14-day order on May 9 to halt logging on two state-managed forest parcels near the Elwha River after the Legacy Forest Defense Coalition argued that ongoing roadwork by Oregon-based Murphy Company could cause irreparable harm. Environmental protesters set up a blockade that may delay the mountain bike race planned for May 16 — the Dry Hill Recreation Area was closed for safety. My Clallam County

- ➤ Preliminary figures show Olympic Medical Center lost $10.3 million in 2024—an improvement over nearly $26 million in losses last year—according to a draft report presented to the board Wednesday. CFO Lorraine Cannon said delays from a new management system are being fixed and the board will complete first-quarter figures soon while exploring a switch to critical access hospital status that may require closing the Sequim campus.
