  • The Dolly Parton Imagination Library continues in Clallam County but now relies on donors for support after state funding was removed — the program provides free, age-appropriate books to children from birth to five with backing from local groups.  My Clallam County

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The U.S. Coast Guard continued searching overnight near Dungeness Spit for a person believed to have fallen from a kayak after a distress call was received Tuesday — searchers will resume efforts today and ask mariners to remain alert.  My Clallam County

CRIME NEWS

  • A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a message with a possible threat was found in a Port Angeles high school bathroom+ police and school officials quickly increased campus security as the threat was said to be carried out today.  Peninsula Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A project to install fiber optic cable along 15 miles of Highway 112 is underway to bring high-speed internet to more than 1,500 homes by late 2026. Clallam County, Astound and the County PUD are partnering on the $22 million project—supported by ARPA funds, a state grant and county contributions—to improve service in an underserved area.  Peninsula Daily News

  • Peninsula College nursing and medical assisting students are selling duck derby tickets to support the Olympic Medical Center Foundation Healthcare Scholarship Fund and to reimburse program expenses — including a pinning ceremony on June 20 and credentialing fees. Ticket sales continue through Saturday and the derby at Port Angeles City Pier Stage will offer prizes such as a 2025 Toyota and other raffle awards.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Pulitzer Prize-winning author Caroline Fraser, the 2025 Writer-in-Residence, is speaking today at Peninsula College’s Little Theater at 12:30 p.m.+ she will follow with a free screening of the American Masters documentary and a moderated conversation until 4 p.m. at the Port Angeles campus.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WSU extension offices in Clallam and Jefferson counties lost a key federal program that helped food banks buy fresh produce from local farms. Without this funding, food banks and local farms will have less produce and the Clallam extension office may cancel two research grants—adding uncertainty to future operations.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Clallam County and Astound have started work on a $22.2 million fiber optic internet project along the US 112 corridor west of Port Angeles that will provide high speed service to over 1,500 underserved homes. The project is set to be finished by the end of 2026 — using funds from state and local sources to build a network that matches service in larger cities.  My Clallam County
  • Today, state agency buildings in Port Angeles lower their flags at half staff to honor Peace Officers Memorial Day as ordered by Governor Bob Ferguson — the flags will remain lowered until sunset or the close of business.  My Clallam County
  • Clallam County will receive over $329 million in state funding over the next two years—funds that will support projects in Port Angeles such as $2 million for multifamily housing, $2 million for the waterfront center, $1 million for the Marine Discovery Center, childcare expansion at the Shore Aquatic Center, library accessibility improvements, and a new emergency operations center.  My Clallam County
