- ➤ The Olympic Peninsula YMCA received over $767,000 from a state grant to build a skate park in Quilcene. The park will be built on county park land & may break ground this summer with work set to begin by May 1 on the required construction date. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Pam Scott will wear a duck suit and sell tickets for the 36th annual duck derby at the City Pier near the Edie Beck Kids Pavilion on Sunday—tickets are available at local stores and markets through Saturday. The event will award 36 prizes, including a top prize Toyota, and proceeds will support the OMC Foundation Healthcare Scholarship Fund. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ The public will help create gifts for Canoe Journey participants at Field Arts & Events Hall—201 W. Front St. Craft sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and May 29, where volunteers will use provided supplies and expert guidance while Field Hall collects donations for the Paddle to Elwha paddlers hosted by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. - ➤ The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce is trying to secure a small barge to launch Fourth fireworks after traditional sites were ruled out due to new waterfront development—officials said they will decide by May 23 and include other celebrations on July 4 if fireworks cannot be held. - ➤ Port of Port Angeles commissioners approved applying for a state Department of Transportation Airport Aid Grant to support two capital projects at Fairchild International Airport — repairing Taxiway A and constructing a building with enlarged hangar space. If awarded, FAA funds will cover 95 percent of the $6.1 million cost and work will begin next summer. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ State Rep. Adam Bernbaum spoke at a Port Angeles Chamber luncheon on May 15 about how federal instability and a fast-moving budget process in Olympia led to hard fiscal decisions and cuts instead of raising some taxes. He explained that transportation funding now includes a gas tax increase starting July 1 — a change aimed at addressing revenue declines as more people drive electric vehicles. My Clallam County
- ➤ Starting Saturday, feeding deer, elk, or moose will be illegal in Washington as the WDFW approved the rule to stop the spread of chronic wasting disease—this law also bans using bait to attract these animals. My Clallam County

- ➤ Peninsula Behavioral Health in Port Angeles is watching for proposed Medicaid cuts that may lower funding for crisis care, housing support and homeless outreach+about 85 percent of its revenue comes from Medicaid.
