COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ben and Myrtle Walkling Memorial Trust in Port Angeles is accepting applications for civic project grants to fund new projects in 2026—requests for funding budgets or ongoing projects will likely not be funded. Applicants may get forms by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to P.O. Box 1588 or emailing [email protected] and must submit completed applications by Sept. 30.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Elizabeth Angell watched her two-year-old son at Dream Playground yesterday as parts of the park stayed closed for maintenance. The entire playground will be closed Saturday morning for seasonal play surface rehabilitation.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed land exchange between state DNR trust lands and Merrill & Ring properties—covering up to 2,266.28 acres of trust land for 2,216 acres of timberland and rural residential parcels—is open for public comment until 5:30 p.m. June 19. DNR staff explained at a recent hearing at the Port Angeles Main Library that the swap aims to consolidate isolated parcels for better management while awaiting appraisal and further negotiation before a final board decision is made.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Port Angeles City Councilman Brendan Meyer announced Tuesday that he will resign at the end of this month due to serious health concerns. City staff will soon begin accepting applications to fill his seat, with a replacement appointed within 90 days and required to run in the November 2026 election to serve out the term.  My Clallam County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Olympic Medical Center projected a net income of $1.1 million for the first quarter with $628,527 earned in March, up from 2024’s revenue. The board approved a seven-year contract at $700,000 a year with MediCleanse—this will help cut rising utility costs—while the hospital plans to start talks with a healthcare partner this summer.  Peninsula Daily News
