ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Olympic National Park and local rescue teams are still searching for a person who slipped into the Sol Duc River on Sunday after witnesses saw the individual moving among rocky outcroppings and submerging around 12:48 p.m.—officials have not yet released the person’s identity pending next of kin notification.  My Clallam County

CRIME NEWS

  • Port Angeles police arrested 36-year-old Ashley Ennen on Saturday evening for suspected first-degree arson after a fire broke out in her West 16th Street apartment on June 7 at 7:10 p.m.—firefighters located a gas can near the fire's origin and investigators forwarded the case to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.  My Clallam County
  • An 18-year-old Port Angeles man identified as Cash Coleman was arrested after firing a handgun from a moving vehicle on Deer Park Road on June 5—he turned himself in on June 7 and surrendered the firearm—and now faces a gross misdemeanor charge.  My Clallam County
  • A stray bullet struck a home on Kruse Road on Friday evening and deputies found a 9mm round lodged in the exterior wall—officials said the incident is not connected to a separate shooting the day before and the investigation remains active.  My Clallam County

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nominations for the Best of Clallam and Jefferson counties and Best of the West End are open from June 9 to June 22 for the Best of the Peninsula contest, which is now in its 30th year and honors outstanding local businesses, services, and individuals. The top five nominees in each category will move on to the vote from June 30 to July 13 — winners will be published online and in print later in September.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County finished Towne Road along the eastern edge of the Dungeness River near Sequim after 15 years of planning and construction at a cost of about $22.5 million. County leaders said the project, which included restoring the floodplain—and relocating levees to improve flood protection—has enhanced recreation and fish habitat.  Peninsula Daily News
