  • Olympic National Park search and rescue teams are preparing to recover the body of an 18-year-old man who fell over a 50-foot waterfall at Sol Duc — the recovery will begin when river conditions allow amid swift flows from high temperatures and snowmelt.  Peninsula Daily News

  • An arrest was made in the 2016 homicide of famed indigenous woodcarver George David when Port Angeles Police took 55-year-old Tina Marie Alcorn into custody and set her arraignment for June 20 at 9:00 a.m.  My Clallam County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incumbent Sarah Methner — who has served on the board since 2009 — and challenger Kim Butler shared their ideas on education at a forum held by the Port Angeles Business Association on Tuesday, though candidate Ruth Replogle did not attend. Ned Hammar had withdrawn but his name remains on the Aug. 5 primary ballot that will be mailed on July 16.  Peninsula Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1 declared a stage 2 water alert for the Carlsborg, Evergreen, Panoramic Heights and Port Angeles Composite systems — this follows a state drought declaration from the Department of Ecology due to low snowpack and rain deficits. The district asks customers to save water by reducing outdoor use, fixing leaks, and running appliances only when full.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Work crews resume the fish passage improvement project today along Highway 101 west of Lake Crescent between mileposts 208 and 210 near Wisen Creek Road. Drivers face alternating single-lane traffic — controlled by temporary signals and a 25 mph speed limit until September — and work is expected to finish this fall.  Peninsula Daily News

  • Sunrise Meats in Port Angeles recalled its smoked wild white king salmon after the WSDA discovered listeria contamination during routine testing—store employees confirmed the recalled product with a Sell by date of 7/21 was removed from shelves and no illnesses have been reported as the investigation continues.  My Clallam County
