COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula has launched its Summer Meals program in Port Angeles and Sequim from June 16 through Aug. 27 on weekdays except July 4 — providing free sack lunches to children ages 1 to 18 at 11 locations while the clubs cover afternoon snacks and teen dinners after 6 p.m.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Port Angeles arrested 36-year-old Anthony Lewis Reynolds on June 21 for robbery, kidnapping, burglary, and theft after a December 5 armed robbery at Frugal’s where employees were held at gunpoint—authorities have issued a warrant for 59-year-old Burton C.B. Brown and ask anyone with information to come forward.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state Supreme Court ruled on June 9 that public defender caseload limits will be reduced in phases over the next decade — lowering limits to 47 felony cases or case credits and 120 misdemeanor case credits by 2036. The new rule will take effect on January 1 — cutting caseloads by about 10% each year and prompting local courts to plan for more hires.  My Clallam County
  • At Monday’s work session, the Clallam County Board of Commissioners provided updates on local road projects—reporting that the Elwha River bridge will be demolished during the July/August in-water work period while work on Tumwater Creek is set to finish later this year—and that WSDOT will open bids on a Highway 112 preservation project and address concerns over Highway 110’s condition. A new Teamsters contract affecting 230 county employees will also begin on July 1 with a 6 percent pay increase.  Peninsula Daily News

  • The Olympic Medical Center board negotiated non-binding letters of intent with about 20 potential partners as it explores an affiliation but still may remain independent—commissioners will soon vote on one letter that names a potential partner and CEO Darryl Wolfe said an announcement will be made shortly.  Peninsula Daily News
