GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Angeles City Council hopefuls Kate Dexter and Mimi Smith Dvorak shared their plans to boost local business and improve city infrastructure at a Port Angeles Business Association meeting at Jazzy Joshua’s—Dexter highlighted the need to upgrade local water contracts and housing while Dvorak called for using more local help and adding more multifamily homes. The primary election will be on Aug. 5 with ballots mailed starting July 16.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Contractors for the city of Port Angeles are converting traffic signals to LED lights today at Fifth and Race streets—further work is scheduled at nearby intersections with police directing traffic during the work, part of the city's capital facilities plan.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Port of Port Angeles staff started monthly budget reforecasting to track spending and income, and commissioners learned it takes one to four hours each month. The port received over $44 million in grants and put in $7.87 million in matching funds to support capital projects — a move it will build on to improve funding ratios in the future.  Peninsula Daily News
