ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Port Angeles emergency responders — including Clallam 2 Fire Rescue and the Port Angeles Fire Department — launched a large water rescue call Friday after reports of children near the Elwha River, but a brief search found the two youths safe and soon picked up by their families.  My Clallam County

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Park officials in Olympic National Park are watching weather and fire risks as temporary fireworks stands signal the start of wildfire season from July through September. Jeff Bortner, the park's fire management officer, said his team will monitor lightning strikes, smoke columns, and unsafe actions—reminding visitors that fireworks are illegal.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Today, Port Angeles residents can recycle glass at the Regional Transfer Station and Blue Mountain Transfer Station — the new three-year agreement with Seattle’s Sibelco lets clean, empty glass be crushed and sent by rail to Portland. The process returns glass recycling to normal after a temporary pause.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Port Angeles will close both Eighth Street bridges from 7 a.m. Monday until 8 a.m. July 4 to apply sealant that prevents water intrusion and extends the bridges’ lifespan — detour routes will be marked. Sidewalks will remain open — ensuring pedestrian access during the project.  Peninsula Daily News
  • The Clallam County Fire Marshal ordered a burn ban in unincorporated areas that will begin Tuesday and continue through Oct. 1st. The order bans outdoor burning except for fires used for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, warmth or cooking and prohibits propane weed burners and burning debris.  Peninsula Daily News
