ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, July 6, a human-caused fire called Bear Gulch Fire burned about 200 acres near the Mt. • The Northwest Watershed Institute finalized the purchase of 81 acres of forest and wetlands in Tarboo valley on June 25 to add to its 500-acre Tarboo Wildlife Preserve—funded by federal, county, tribal, and local contributions at a cost of $1,295,000. • Clallam County PUD No. 1 has issued a stage 3 water alert for the Clallam Bay/Sekiu system and a stage 4 alert for the Island View system due to forecast low streamflow from the Hoko River, with water from Olsen Creek possibly requiring trucking if shortages worsen—restrictions include limiting outdoor watering, vehicle washing, and all nonessential water use. The stage 3 alert allows even-numbered addresses to water on even days and odd-numbered addresses on odd days, while the stage 4 alert requires customers to reduce indoor water use as well.  Peninsula Daily News
