  • Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest will restrict campfires to established fire rings only starting today due to dry conditions and active fires, banning backcountry campfires, charcoal grills, and equipment that produces ash. Gas or propane stoves (with shut-off valves) are permitted if used safely, and the restrictions extend to coastal beaches and rainforests (Quinault and Hoh) as fire managers warn that fires can spread rapidly.  My Clallam County
  • Officials from the Washington State Department of Ecology provided an update on Tuesday at the Field Arts and Events Hall about the Rayonier Mill cleanup at the 80 acre site near Ennis Creek, explaining that contaminants such as dioxins, PCBs and metals were found and that a consent decree requires a 7 to 10 year remediation process at an estimated cost of $30 million.
