- ➤ Port Angeles is offering free trees through its City Shade Tree Program for a third year—about 115 trees will be provided this fall after Arbor Day. Residents can apply online until Aug. 8, request up to two trees each, and get help from city volunteers to plant and care for them. Peninsula Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office now contracts with Olympic Peninsula Humane Society to hold dangerous animals for up to 20 days — the reservation fee is $4 and costs $49 per day if a dog is kept, with the contract in effect through the end of 2026. County commissioners also approved a disability services plan starting July 1 through June 30, with a maximum amount of $2,765,995. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Clallam County commissioners approved $800,000 from the Opportunity Fund to cover public infrastructure costs for Lyon’s Landing—an affordable 45-unit housing project on a 7.7-acre site in Carlsborg. Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County will begin unofficial construction within the next 60 days to help local families facing a housing shortage. Peninsula Daily News
