- ➤ A tanker truck overturned in Indian Creek along Highway 101 just west of Port Angeles on July 18 when the driver left the road at about 10:20 a.m. and rolled down the embankment, and he crawled out of his cab on his own while medics evaluated him + the Department of Ecology plans to assess the fuel leak. - ➤ Artists Heather Sparks and Zeo Boekbinder painted a fern leaf stencil on a concrete divider along Race Street south of Lauridsen Blvd in Port Angeles as part of a project to beautify the corridor on Wednesday. The project improves traffic lanes, pedestrian and bike lanes — and decorative lighting, with plans to extend similar changes to First and Front streets. Peninsula Daily News

- ➤ Today, the Recreation and Conservation Office awarded $9.2 million in grants statewide to restore coastal habitat, create jobs, and boost community strength — Clallam County received over $1 million for salmon habitat projects and nearly $645,000 was allocated to Jefferson County for local restoration. The funds will support efforts to remove invasive plants, fix river flows and reduce flood risks — measures under the Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative started in 2015. - ➤ Clallam County Commissioners held a special meeting on July 18 to begin discussions on a levy lid lift for the 2026 budget process. - ➤ Clallam County is nearing a key milestone for its Emergency Operations Center and 911 project as the design is about 90% complete—officials expect a detailed soft cost estimate in August while final costs and a $3 million FEMA grant remain uncertain as construction plans move forward later this year.
