  • Diane C. Davis was appointed to the board of directors for First Fed Bank and its holding company on Wednesday after the bank settled a lawsuit linked to a water vending company. The bank agreed to pay between $2.87 million and $5.74 million as part of the settlement—its legal filings reported $5.8 million in related expenses.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Angeles officials will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Board Room at the Clallam County Courthouse to vote on a charter amendment that creates a water resources specialist role. The amendment would require the Department of Community Development to contract a specialist—selected through competitive bidding—to gather and share water data, with any changes needing voter approval.  My Clallam County
  • Work crews have begun emergency repairs on U.S. Highway 101 near Kalaloch Campground today after a failed culvert and erosion closed the southbound lane, and drivers must now use alternating single lanes under temporary signals. The repairs are expected to finish in about two weeks at a cost of $671,000—state officials said.  Peninsula Daily News
  • The Clallam County commissioners are asking Port Angeles residents to join 'For' and 'Against' committees to help draft arguments on a proposed charter amendment that would remove the statement about the prosecuting attorney from Section 4.20. Volunteers must call or email Loni Gores (360-417-2256 or [email protected]) by 8 a.m. Monday and submit their statements to the County Auditor by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 12.  Peninsula Daily News
  • City Public Works Director Scott Curtin explained that a Do Not Drink order was put in place after last week’s tanker truck crash into Indian Creek and was removed on Sunday after lab tests confirmed the water was safe. He said water intake operations restarted at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and additional tests are planned — city officials will shut down intake when heavy rains begin.  My Clallam County
  • The Clallam Conservation District has proposed a $5 parcel fee to help fund local conservation programs and will hold a public hearing Friday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor in the Juan de Fuca Room — a virtual option is available for those who wish to participate.  My Clallam County
  • The Port Angeles City Council voted 5-0 at Tuesday's special meeting to instruct staff to contact the state Department of Ecology for a full cleanup of the contaminated 80-acre Rayonier Mill site—located near Ennis Creek. Officials said cleanup option SL-5, which removes all contaminated soil, is the only permanent solution—despite costing about $27 million more than SL-3.  Peninsula Daily News
