COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Port Angeles Police Department is hosting National Night Out on Aug. 5 at Civic Field, 307 S. Race St — the free event runs from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and offers family-friendly activities including music, food vendors, a K—9 demonstration, and an outdoor screening of A Minecraft Movie at 7 p.m.  Peninsula Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, visitors can join the Port Angeles Underground Heritage Tour that lasts 2½ hours and reveals hidden basements, tunnels, and a preserved brothel above what is now the Family Shoe Store. The tour is led by Steve Hargis, who brings years of local history passion and experience to show how early engineers reshaped downtown after 1914 floods.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Larmar and Studio Bob are hosting a launch party for a 72-Hour Film Challenge at 6 p.m. on August 7 in Port Angeles. Contestants must include a special character, prop and line in a short film to be finished by midnight on August 12—entries will be screened at 7 p.m. on August 15 at Studio Bob—118 E. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peninsula College is set to add a 5-foot-by-10-foot CNC machine and handheld Shaper Origin units to its Construction Technology Program using funds from the state Workforce Development Fund + the new tools will be installed by winter quarter to help students learn precise digital fabrication techniques in timber construction and cabinetry classes.  My Clallam County
  • The Port Angeles School District board approved extra options for the new Stevens Middle School—using $1.2 million under budget to add a synthetic turf playfield, gym panels, and a canopy for ADA access while rejecting a $75,000 projector option. The board will soon discuss a new name for the school—while the district, commended for its music education, prepares for further projects funded by a $140 million bond measure.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews began the Jones Street Reservoir Valve Replacement Project on July 11 to boost water pressure reliability and will finish by early August. Residents can expect lower water pressure from Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1 and are urged to conserve water—using it only for essentials like drinking, cooking, and hygiene.  My Clallam County
