- ➤ Officials said Monday that the team managing the Bear Gulch Fire took command of the new Hamma Fire, first reported Sunday evening along Forest Service Road 2480 on state DNR land northeast of Bear Gulch. Firefighters are using a direct attack to fight the blaze while helicopters may be seen—protective measures are in place for nearby structures as the Bear Gulch Fire burned over 1100 acres and moved toward the Staircase area of Olympic National Park. - ➤ First Fed reported a net income of $3.7M for Q2 2025 — recovering from a $9M loss in Q1 and not declaring dividends as it seeks a new permanent CEO after Matthew Deines resigned — and the bank settled a lawsuit on July 21 related to a borrower’s bankruptcy with cash payments from $2.87M to $5.74M while it now faces another suit alleging fraud. - ➤ Children in 4-H are preparing for the Clallam County Fair set for Aug. 14 to 17, but volunteer shortages mean many clubs have reached full capacity. County commissioners approved a 60-day extension for the assessor’s office to tackle its backlog and will let the sheriff’s office partner with North Olympic Healthcare Network for new medical services—officials also plan to sign a letter to Ecology to support cleaning up the Rayonier Mill site.
