  • Clallam County Fair will run from Aug. 14-17 and will feature a special kids day (Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) where the first 500 children will receive free T-shirts and enjoy pollinator activities. County officials confirmed that all entertainment and exhibitors have been contracted while planning future upgrades for the rodeo and fair areas with a proposed $250,000 grant set to improve safety.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 36-year-old Port Townsend man pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder after allegedly punching 70-year-old Richard G. Madeo during an assault at a Sequim plaza on May 6—his trial is set for Sept. 22 with a status hearing on Sept. 2.  My Clallam County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peninsula College will launch a Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education program in fall 2025 that provides a direct path to Washington state teacher certification—featuring evening and hybrid classes for students balancing work and family while gaining in-classroom experience from the first year.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A construction project on Highway 101 east of Sequim finished last week—when a 185 foot bridge over Johnson Creek was repaved and access to Whitefeather Way was restored. HEALTH NEWS

  • Federal health officials determined Olympic Medical Center is not meeting key patient care standards and will lose its Medicare provider agreement on August 15 — over 60% of its patients depend on Medicare for care.  My Clallam County
  • The Olympic Medical Center board hired WittKieffer to help find an interim chief executive officer after CEO Darryl Wolfe quit amid concerns that failing to fix CMS rules by Aug. 15 may stop Medicare payments—this new leader will check hospital operations and make changes until a permanent CEO is chosen.  Peninsula Daily News
