The Port Angeles School District Board will consider a plan to rename Stevens Middle School today at 5:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center in Port Angeles as part of rebuilding the school for 6th to 8th graders+ Superintendent Michelle Olsen will present four new name choices and allow public comments.

Clallam County commissioners voted on Monday to put a levy lid lift proposal on the November 4 ballot that will allow property taxes to rise up to 95 cents per $1,000 of assessed value — a mid-range home owner will see about $8 extra per month if it passes as the county faces future budget shortfalls.

Clallam County voters advanced top candidates in key local races as Penney Sanders, LaTrisha Suggs, Kate Dexter, and Sarah Methner led their contests for the November general election—voters also approved a Fire District 3 property tax levy with 63.9% voting yes, and results remain unofficial until certified. The selections follow the August primary where all candidates moved ahead based on their vote totals.

Tuesday night, voters in Clallam and Jefferson counties advanced candidates in primary races for local offices including Olympic Medical Center commissioner, Port Angeles City Council and the school district.

Penney Sanders and Laurie Force, LaTrisha Suggs and James Taylor, and Sarah Methner and Ned Hammar won in Clallam County while Fred Obee and Dylan Quarles won in Jefferson County—paving the way for the November general election.

On August 6, the Olympic Medical Center Board approved moving forward with affiliation talks with UW Medicine by authorizing leadership to finalize a letter of intent that opens formal discussions on a future partnership.

UW Medicine said it looks forward to continued dialogue—both groups aim to ensure local access to quality care.
