ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday morning, firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 were dispatched from Carlsborg station at 5:26 a.m. to a vehicle fire on Horizon Hills Road near Sequim, where a blaze spread from one car to an adjacent RV camper due to combustible metal and crews used 1,500 gallons of water & backup from Sequim units to put out the fire with no injuries reported. - ➤ Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 quickly contained two brush fires at Diamond Point Airstrip on August 11 after a community work party's propane torch use ignited dry grass—one fire grew to 2.0 acres and the other reached 0.2 acres. My Clallam County

- ➤ The Port Angeles School District board is meeting at Lincoln Center this week to interview firms for the new Franklin Elementary School at 8 a.m. Thursday and for Port Angeles High School at 8 a.m. Friday—voters approved a 20-year $140 million bond to replace both schools, and no public comment will be taken during the interviews—while a budget work session is set for 1 p.m. Thursday. - ➤ Salmon fishing in Marine Area 6 — the East Strait of Juan de Fuca — is closed through Friday, August 15 because the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife expects anglers to reach the legal limit of 6,550 Chinook salmon by Sunday; the area will reopen Saturday, August 16 for hatchery coho and pink salmon under summer and fall rules. - ➤ Port Angeles residents can review the city's draft 2025 Housing Action Plan and Housing Needs Assessment until Oct. 22 to offer feedback on proposals to boost housing supply, affordability, homelessness support, and tenant protection. The plan will be discussed at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at City Hall—additional opportunities for public input are planned later this fall. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Clallam County plans to upgrade its administrative campus and juvenile detention center to meet Clean Buildings Act targets after an audit found the campus is nearly 19% over its energy goal and the center 32% over—with non-compliance costing $133,900 a year. The county will also consider a $5 per-parcel fee at the commissioners' meeting on Aug 19 to support local conservation programs + help fund essential services. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Jefferson County is looking into selling the Olympic Peninsula Gateway Visitor Center property after Jefferson Transit Authority (JTA) showed interest in buying the site to build a transit hub that will connect Jefferson residents to Clallam Transit, which may improve travel on and off the Peninsula.
