ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 extinguished two brush fires at Diamond Point Airport on Monday after a community work party using propane torches sparked the blazes along the runway—one fire covered 2 acres and the other 0.2 acres as crews set up a wet line when winds reached 11 mph.  Peninsula Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Peninsula Daily News is moving this weekend—after selling its 9,530-square-foot office and 4,330-square-foot warehouse to Madrona Children’s Academy, which will convert the space into an early learning center for children. The newspaper will relocate to 1102 E. First St. and focus on cost efficiency as it retools its operations while continuing to serve local news.  Peninsula Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Washington State Patrol has issued a Silver Alert for 77-year-old Carol Durran, who was last seen Tuesday at about 11 a.m. in the 500 block of East Park Street in Port Angeles—she is walking and unable to return without help.  My Clallam County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Port Angeles School District board will hold a budget workshop at 1 p.m. Thursday in room 208 at Lincoln Center—public comment will be invited while no action is taken. The meeting will allow residents to learn about the proposed budget and share their views.  Peninsula Daily News
  • The Crescent School Board will meet today at 7:15 p.m. in the Crescent School library at 50350 state Highway 112 in Joyce to choose an interim superintendent—filling in for David Bingham who is on medical leave until November.  Peninsula Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the Washington State Department of Ecology announced that emergency response operations for the fuel spill at Indian Creek west of Port Angeles ended on August 12 and that long-term environmental monitoring — including a Natural Resource Damage Assessment and steps under the Toxics Cleanup Program — will soon begin while local partners keep the nearby estuary open for fish passage despite the loss of over 2,100 fish and 538 invertebrates.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Port Angeles commissioners approved three grant applications on Tuesday—an $11.25 million Maritime Administration grant to upgrade Terminal 3, a $488,165 Department of Homeland Security grant to enhance port security, and a $302,634 FAA grant for designing new hangars—and will auction six abandoned vessels to recover nearly $43,000 in marina charges.  Peninsula Daily News
