Peninsula College had its accreditation reaffirmed by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities after the Year Seven Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness in July, with the commission praising its culture of respect and community engagement—while it recommended improvements in instructional evaluation and learning outcomes. President Suzy Ames said the college will add these steps to its strategic plan.

The Port Angeles School District is holding board interviews to choose architect firms for two major school projects funded by a voter-approved bond.

The meetings are scheduled for today at 8 a.m. at Franklin Elementary and tomorrow at 8 a.m. at Port Angeles High School in the Lincoln Center Board Room—905 W. 9th St.

The Bear Gulch fire grew nearly 1,200 acres from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday, reaching 7,400 acres near the north end of Lake Cushman in Olympic National Forest—fire crews used helicopter water drops and heavy equipment for fuel reduction while cooler, moist weather is expected later this week to gradually reduce its spread.

Dr. Nancy Stephanz, a retired physician, urged Port Angeles residents to share unused rooms for affordable housing & to lower loneliness during a Chamber meeting at the Red Lion Hotel.

She said the Nesterly program needs 50 hosts to match homeowners with renters & offer safe, low-cost living arrangements.
