🎓 Education
The Crescent School Board named Ann Renker as Interim Superintendent while Superintendent David Bingham takes medical leave for open heart surgery.
Renker will work on campus two days a week starting Tuesday, August 19—her contract will be approved at a special meeting on Monday, August 18 as Bingham plans to return on December 1.
🏛️ Government
Port Angeles is asking community members to serve on advisory boards, commissions, and committees—applications must be submitted by noon August 22.
The groups work on issues from beautification to public safety and even welcome youth advisors aged 14 to 18.
Clallam County is planning energy upgrades at its Administrative Campus and Juvenile Detention Center after audits showed both sites exceed Washington's Clean Buildings Performance Standards.
Millig Energy assessed the facilities and county commissioners will review plans for improvements such as LED lighting and modern HVAC systems to lower energy use before 2027.
Drivers on US 101 in Port Angeles face planned night lane closures as WSDOT sets girders for new bridges at Lees—Ennis creeks.
Lane closures run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. from Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 19–21 and again from Monday through Thursday, Aug. 25–28 under the fish barrier removal project.
🏥 Health
Olympic Medical Center officials said on August 15 that they expect no Medicare disruptions after addressing compliance issues with patient rights and nursing services.
A state health inspection found significant improvements in documentation—prompting the hospital to continue refining its policies with CMS.
Olympic Medical Center will have new leadership when Mark Gregson becomes interim CEO on Aug.20 after current CEO Darryl Wolfe leaves on Aug.19.
The board picked him from four choices—he has strong rural healthcare experience—and he will work on cost control, safety standards, and a plan with UW Medicine during his first 100 days.
