- ➤ Earlier this summer, Anthony Anton warned that higher costs could force many restaurants to close, but local business leaders reported that Port Angeles tourism stayed strong with fewer Canadian visitors and new guests from abroad — Olympic Hiking Company grew and added staff. Some local owners expect things to improve by the end of August — and officials will review full tourism data in the fall. Peninsula Daily News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Park Service closed the Hoh Rain Forest area of Olympic National Park due to flooding from a backup at a Jefferson County culvert project at milepost 1.24 on Upper Hoh Road—officials say the area will remain closed until county assessors confirm that the bypass route is safe.
