- ➤ The Port Angeles School District will host its Back-to-School Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Elementary School at 218 E. 12th St. The event will provide basic school supplies and community resource connections—helping families prepare for the new school year. - ➤ Clallam County PUD was awarded the Washington State Auditor’s Stewardship Award for government accountability and transparency last week when State Auditor Pat McCarthy visited its headquarters. - ➤ Clallam County is considering sending a letter to the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe to start talks on how converting land to federal trust status lowers property taxes. County officials said the recent conversions lost more than $19,000 yearly on parcels valued over $2.1 million—officials may use a payment in lieu of taxes model similar to one used with the Quileute Tribe and Forks. - ➤ Contractor crews working for the state Department of Transportation have begun repairs on Highway 112 between Neah Bay and Sekiu, replacing 10 drainage culverts, repairing embankments at Rasmussen and Jansen creeks, upgrading guardrails and signs, and paving seven miles of road—drivers will see alternating single-lane traffic this fall and again in spring and summer as work continues. - ➤ CMS informed Olympic Medical Center that it has until Sept.20 to fix reported violations to avoid termination of its contract — a move that threatens reimbursements for nearly 75% of its patients and ends its participation in the 340B program on Oct.1.
