- ➤ Former YMCA fitness instructor Mikki Hughes was fired on July 28 after 30 years when new management asked her to quit, prompting about 20 former students to protest outside the Port Angeles YMCA and claim the Y has lost its core values. - ➤ Sequim’s Ghostlight Productions postponed its Cinderella performances because the school district’s new rental fees for the high school auditorium would raise costs from about $1,800–$2,700 to over $12,000. The performances are tentatively rescheduled for early 2026 pending fee discussions — a move made as Sequim Schools reviews its fee structure after six years without a change. My Clallam County

- ➤ Today, the Port Angeles City Council narrowed the list for a vacant seat to three top candidates—Jon Hamilton, Christy Holy, and Laurel Cripe—and will interview them on Sept. 2 with a deadline to fill the seat by Sept. 28. The council also shifted fish barrier culverts design work from the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe to the city, updated a base rate ordinance, and signed a memorandum with the North Olympic Peninsula Recompete Coalition to spur local jobs.
