GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Clallam County Commissioners paused a plan that would let the Conservation District charge a $5 fee on parcels — they support the idea but require changes including a ten-year sunset clause, a fixed fee, and annual public reports. The revised proposal will return to the board after the hearing held on Tuesday — officials seek a balanced approach to ensure stable project funding. My Clallam County
- ➤ Contractor crews for the state Department of Transportation will set girders for a new bridge over Ennis Creek beginning Tuesday, and drivers will face overnight lane closures on Highway 101 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. from Tuesday through Friday. Once the eastbound bridge is complete this fall, traffic will be diverted to allow work on the westbound span — with the project being completed in phases. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Clallam County commissioners on Tuesday talked about a $100,000 no-match grant that would fund a mobile sensory unit at the fair to help children and adults with sensory needs—this unit would give families a safer spot away from bright lights and loud sounds. The board also considered a $70,041 grant for the Sheriff’s Office crew, a $20,000 training grant for Peninsula Communications, and a two-year, $1.6 million grant to support field response services for mental health.
