- ➤ Sequim’s Shipley Center plans to submit a building permit and floor plan by mid- to late September to begin renovations of the former JCPenney building and expand the facility from 11,000 to 29,000 square feet; executive director Michael Smith said the upgraded center will open by the end of 2026—using its own crew to manage construction. - ➤ Sequim residents Bert Corales and Candace Fagerhaugh rescued four baby owls from their owl house when both parent owls disappeared—Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue raised the orphans with surrogate mothers and returned them safely, and the couple hopes to welcome new owls by late fall. VHOCC seeks a Development & Gifts Officer (DGO) with deep existing relationships in the community. This individual will focus on securing large financial donations by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals and corporations. The DGO will build relationships, develop outreach campaign strategies, and manage donor portfolios.
