- ➤ Port Angeles bagpipers Tom McCurdy, Erik Evans and Heidi Slack performed yesterday at Pebble Beach Park to rehearse songs for 9/11 commemoration ceremonies—events scheduled for September 11. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Mary Engel Springer Donovan said she designed Forks’ famous welcome sign — in June she informed the Forks Forum so Google could credit her. The sign was first put up in 1989 and has been moved to handle large crowds of Twilight fans — it will get busy during the upcoming Forever Twilight in Forks Festival. Peninsula Daily News

- ➤ Clallam County is making a disaster plan for domestic animals and asks residents to complete a short survey that counts pets and maps their locations. County staff said the survey will help plan safe animal rescues in an emergency — even those without pets should fill it out. My Clallam County
- ➤ Port of Port Angeles commissioners approved a 10 year lease with Olympic Hiking Co. for a 1300 square foot building and 14600 square feet of land at 720 Marine Drive that will get $50000 in renovations before the company moves in on Nov. 1. Commissioners also approved a $390000 FAA grant for taxiway repairs and authorized a grant for Terminal 3 upgrades to improve operations next year—efforts that support local infrastructure. - ➤ Mayor Kate Dexter and challenger Mimi Smith Dvorak shared contrasting ideas for running the city at a candidate forum Tuesday morning at Jazzy Joshua’s restaurant. Dexter said she will back local hiring and current housing policies while Smith Dvorak wants to treat city operations like a business — calling for better financial data and tools for small businesses.
