COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Communities in Clallam County are marking today with ceremonies in Sequim and Port Angeles to honor the September 11 attacks. In Sequim the event begins at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center Plaza with a display of a World Trade Center artifact, and in Port Angeles the ceremony at 12 noon includes a flag presentation and speeches by local public safety officials.  My Clallam County

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Port of Port Angeles and Olympic Hiking Co. have signed a 10-year lease on a Marine Drive building to serve as headquarters for a cornerstone business—this agreement ensures long-term local investment.  Peninsula Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Port Angeles film producer Cecelia Stevenson— a 2010 Port Angeles High School graduate—premiered her first feature film in Dallas on Monday. The film, titled Triumph of the Heart, tells the true story of Catholic priest St. Maximilian Kolbe in Auschwitz and received a standing ovation, with Stevenson hoping local theaters like Deer Park will add it if demand grows.  Peninsula Daily News
  • This weekend, local entertainment lights up the North Olympic Peninsula as Nellie McKay will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Rainshadow Recording in Fort Worden State Park—David Bonobo will host an electronic music concert from 6 to 11 p.m. at Quilcene Lantern with an improv show set for Friday at Studio Bob.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County commissioners urged Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands to approve paused timber sales so that around $3 million in funds can support services for the Olympic Medical Center, fire districts, the library, county roads and the general fund. They stated the sales meet state environmental standards and help sustain local mill jobs—critical to the community.  My Clallam County
  • The Clallam Conservation District approved amendments to its parcel fee resolution that set a fixed $5 fee for residential lands with a sunset clause ending Dec. 31, 2035—other property types face lower rates and the district must submit annual reports on fund usage; the resolution awaits approval by Clallam County Commissioners.  Peninsula Daily News
