CULTURE NEWS

  • Division Chief Tyler Gage of the Port Angeles Fire Department delivered remarks on how first responders were affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 events—at a remembrance ceremony held Thursday at the twin monuments at 9/11 Memorial Waterfront Park that featured a flag presentation, comments from law enforcement, and music by the Grand Olympic Chorus.  Peninsula Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shellfish managers at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced there will be 47 tentative days for razor clam digs from Oct. 6 through Jan. 6—final beach openings will depend on marine toxin testing done shortly before each series. Digs are planned at nearly all beaches including Long Beach, Twin Harbors, and Copalis—except Kalaloch, which has low clam populations.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jon Hamilton was sworn in as a Port Angeles City Council member Tuesday evening at City Hall. He will attend his first meeting—set for Sept. 16.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Last year, Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue began an automatic mutual aid agreement so both teams responded together—responding to 85 shared calls in that period—and strengthened their coordination for faster emergency services.  My Clallam County
  • Sam Grello, the Executive Director of the Port Angeles Waterfront District, delivered a positive state-of-the-district address on September 11 at a Chamber luncheon—explaining plans to seek a Washington Main Street affiliation and boost local performance arts. He presented a 5-year plan with 64 items for downtown improvements and announced a new conference committee to draw more events while urging quicker fixes for long-term vacant storefronts.  My Clallam County
