ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Port Angeles’ planned biochar facility is on hold as Myno Carbon awaits funding changes—CEO Thor Kallestad expected the project to open by early 2027 before federal grant cancellations and legal setbacks delayed progress. The funding shift followed USDA changes that affected a major climate program, leaving the project in limbo.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s Port Angeles Business Association meeting at Jazzy Joshua’s restaurant, incumbent LaTrisha Suggs and challenger James Taylor debated their ideas for City Council seat 1—Suggs urged using tax funds for infrastructure while Taylor argued that the city should focus on protecting current businesses and keep state and federal issues out of council work. They also differed on how to measure city success, with Suggs favoring retail sales and business growth tracking and Taylor calling for a new review panel.  Peninsula Daily News
  • The League of Women Voters of Clallam County and the North Olympic Library System are asking residents to email concise questions for candidate forums on November election races, which will be held via Zoom in late September and October—questions must be submitted at least three days before each event. The schedule includes a forum for Hospital District No. 2 on Sept. 30, Port of Port Angeles and City Council on Oct. 2, and Clallam County Fire District No. 2 on Oct. 7.  Peninsula Daily News
  • City and County leaders will meet tonight at 5 p.m. at Port Angeles City Hall to review final design plans and funding for a new Joint Public Safety Facility on West Edgewood Drive near Fairchild Airport. The $22 million project—aimed at updating the emergency operations center and 911 dispatch center—will see construction bids released later this year with completion expected by 2027.  My Clallam County

HEALTH NEWS

  • After finishing her nursing studies at Peninsula College in June 2024, SchelleFitzpatrick joined Olympic Medical Center’s nurse residency program and began working in the emergency department handling trauma and other urgent cases. The program—launched in 2017—offers hands-on training in various specialties and supports professional growth amid a local nursing shortage.  Peninsula Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tonight the Roughriders host Bainbridge at Peninsula College in an Olympic League soccer game as they try to end a six—game home losing streak and boost their championship hopes. Bainbridge won the last six matchups by a combined score of 22—2 while Freshman Emma Desjardins and teammates fuel a 3—0 start that could set the stage for a state tournament game in November.  My Clallam County
