ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Port Angeles trucking community will hold a procession on Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. from Swanson’s to Fairview Grange — honoring Dwane Sukert who died on Sept. 3 near North Bend in a trucking collision and whose tribute will be broadcast on Facebook Live. Peninsula Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday night, the city council heard a presentation on a proposed fee-in-lieu sidewalk program that would let developers pay instead of building sidewalks — allowing work to shift to more strategic locations to address ADA issues. The ordinance will be reviewed again on Oct. 21 and will take effect 10 days after adoption if approved. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Port Angeles work crews will maintain a section of the Olympic Discovery Trail from Monday through Sept. 26. The trail will be closed from the Ennis Creek trailhead to the Morse Creek trailhead as crews clear debris and prep for winter—trail users may ride Clallam Transit Route 30 to bypass the work area. - ➤ The Port Angeles City and Clallam County met Tuesday night to vote nearly unanimously on a design and construction agreement for a new public safety facility near Fairchild airport—this facility will house the county’s Emergency Operations Center and PENCOM dispatch center at a total cost of about $22 million, with the city and county each paying $4,350,000 and the remainder covered by grants, though no construction start date has been set. - ➤ Olympic Medical Center is working with Chartis to simplify overly complex policies and implement mandatory in-person training after CMS violations threatened its contract. The hospital has introduced interim CFO Dennis Stillman and new medical chief Dr. Colin Wolslegel—measures that accompany a plan of correction and an upcoming third-party operational assessment—to boost compliance with state standards.
