- ➤ Clallam County named longtime Port Angeles resident Aspen Smith as its new Fair and Special Event Coordinator and she began the job on September 16 after being chosen from five finalists; she will manage planning for the county fair and other events — using over a decade of experience in customer service and sales. - ➤ A representative from State Ecology cancelled the meeting on September 22 to review over 300 public comments on its cleanup plan for the Rayonier Mill site near Port Angeles Harbor because more time was needed. City Manager Nathan West said the department must provide a firm deadline for releasing the responsiveness summary before year’s end. My Clallam County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Clallam County Health and Human Services plans to create an Opiate Gaps Report and requested $25,000 in opioid settlement funds to study local overdose trends—commissioners will vote on the request on Sept. 30, and the report is expected to be developed in 12 to 16 weeks to better show prevention and treatment options. - ➤ Yesterday, the Peninsula Pirates men tied 1-1 with the Whatcom Orcas with Jeremy Obah scoring while the women won 7-0 with Arianna Ma’afala, Isis Bryant, Kasi Baker, and Cailey Ridgeway scoring—each team outshooting their opponent.
