COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Forty years ago, on September 25, 1985, a strong east wind re-ignited a slash burn near Lake Pleasant — sparking a West End blaze that burned more than 550 acres and drew 1,300 firefighters to contain it, an event that locals still recall as a stark reminder of dry, windy risks.  Peninsula Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Thursday, pedestrians strolled along Port Angeles City Pier past the American Cruise Lines ship American Constitution—one of several vessels used for cruises around Puget Sound and the Salish Sea that offer trips to local ports including Port Angeles and Port Townsend.  Peninsula Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peninsula College will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at 1 p.m. Tuesday on Robins Green—its campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. The ceremony, also known as Orange Shirt Day, will include remarks from professor Migizi Miigwan and voices from the First Nations Club.  Peninsula Daily News
  • The Port Angeles School District board approved Hurricane Ridge Middle School as the new name for the under-construction school that will replace Stevens Middle School and open in 2027–2028. Officials said the name fits the building’s mountain design and local landmark while construction continues with concrete pouring and local business support.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Peninsula College's Medical Assisting program earned continuing accreditation on September 26 from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs—validating its high national standards and preparing students for real-world healthcare careers. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Port Angeles will begin re-lining the sanitary sewers under Francis Street on Monday—closures will affect the stretch between First and Second streets on Monday and Tuesday. The project will repair over 3,000 linear feet of 100-year-old sewer mains and replace manhole covers and frames, and is expected to finish by the end of October.  Peninsula Daily News
  • State grants totaling over $67 million fund 105 projects, including a $1.5 million plan in Port Angeles to extend the Race Street Trail and enhance non-motorized access to nearby recreation areas. Additional projects in Jefferson County and at Port Ludlow Marina will improve conservation efforts and local infrastructure — actions that support economic growth.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Clallam County stepped up enforcement of pet rules after complaints about unleashed dogs and pet waste. In partnership with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, county staff will increase patrols at Dungeness Recreation Area, Marlyn Nelson County Park at Port Williams, and Robin Hill Farm County Park—enforcing leash and cleanup rules with possible citations.  My Clallam County

  • On September 26th, the Wolves beat the Roughriders 3-0 in volleyball while Port Angeles won 4-0 in soccer as Traband and Desjardins combined for all the goals—each showing strong effort. Tonight, the Roughriders will host rival Sequim in a homecoming football game set to start at 7:00 p.m.—a key rivalry matchup for the team.  My Clallam County
