ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Olympic Interagency Fire Management Team has begun burning debris piles in Olympic National Park to create defensible space and reduce wildfire risks, and fire crews will manage the burns until they are out. The burns in areas (Hurricane, Elwha, Sol Duc, Mora, Hoh, Kalaloch and Quinault) are scheduled during safe weather and will finish by November. Peninsula Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WSDOT said fish barrier corrections on U.S. Highway 101 at the South Pine Street cutoff and Tumwater Truck Route will finish on schedule after extra closures gave them 12 more days to complete work without delaying into next year. It added that work at Ennis Creek will end next year and state Route 112 projects will resume after eagle nesting restrictions lift on Aug. 15—NOAA grants support future highway improvements. - ➤ At the 23rd Harvest of Hope Wine & Dinner Gala in Sequim—an annual event—$290K was raised to pay for a new 3D Clarix Breast Specimen Imager at Olympic Medical Center that gives surgeons a complete view during breast cancer surgery and also supports the patient navigation and scholarship programs. Dr. Sandra Tatro donated $5,000 to save a 300-pound auctioned pig from being butchered, marking a unique moment at the fundraiser. Peninsula Daily News

- ➤ On Friday night at Civic Field, the Port Angeles Roughriders beat the Sequim Wolves 27-14 with strong plays by Dylan Mann and Carson Waddell while the soccer team lost 1-0 to North Kitsap.
