- ➤ Chimacum Ridge Community Forest is open all year for hiking, biking, and nature study on nine trails at 1717 Center Road. A celebration on Saturday drew 250 people and Jefferson Land Trust will improve access and manage the forest with annual harvests—like traditional cedar bark collection and tribal use. - ➤ The Peninsula Trails Coalition in Port Angeles hired Ann Livingston as its first executive director and she will start in November—she brings over 20 years of nonprofit leadership with expertise in land-use policy and environmental sustainability from roles in Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, and Washington. The volunteer-run group, which has maintained the Olympic Discovery Trail for 37 years, plans to host community meet-and-greet events when Livingston arrives. My Clallam County
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ At a housing market workshop Tuesday, local experts said Clallam County median incomes lag behind rising home prices—median home values jumped from $273,300 in 2018 to $513,000 now, leaving only 39 percent of residents able to afford a median-priced home. - ➤ The Olympic Medical Center board reviewed its action plan after a recent Health Department survey noted improvements along with areas for further change amid a critical cash shortfall and looming Medicare risks on October 10—board members also approved new contracts with Radia for radiology services and Siemens for upgraded building management software to help cut spending and boost productivity.
