BUSINESS NEWS

  • Port Angeles-based Olympic Hiking Co. will close its current store at The Wharf on Oct. 31 and move to a renovated building at 720 Marine Drive — a new home for storing equipment and supporting its expanding tours. Owner Tommy Farris said the company will settle into the new space during its two-month break starting in November — a move that marks a big step forward for its operations.  Peninsula Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Salmon restoration projects in Clallam and Jefferson counties received nearly $6.2 million in grants from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board and Puget Sound Partnership on Wednesday. The funds will support work such as planting trees and removing barriers — measures to improve river habitats for salmon.  Peninsula Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a forum hosted by the Port Angeles Kiwanis Club at Jazzy Joshua’s, Penney Sanders and Laurie Force answered public questions and debated changes for Olympic Medical Center ahead of the Nov. 4 general election. Sanders, who was appointed on March 5, highlighted cost-cutting and efficiency improvements—while Force called for a full board turnover to restore trust and financial stability.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Today, the Parks & Recreation Department began new parking rules at Lincoln Park by reserving the lot next to the Loomis Building for group events and special activities. City officials also added 20 new general parking spaces north of the building — giving everyday visitors easy access to the ponds and park areas.  My Clallam County

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, Port Angeles Roughriders performed strongly in cross country at North Mason and in swimming at Bainbridge—three runners placed in the top 10 and the pool team won all 12 events. Meanwhile, NWAC soccer Pirates stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 win and will play a doubleheader in Skagit Valley Saturday while prep sports matches are scheduled for today and tomorrow.  My Clallam County
