- ➤ Rainshadow Cafe hosted a fundraiser last month for the family of former employee Jennifer Hanshaw in Sequim—supporting her sixth-grade daughter Ember who was diagnosed last spring with a rare, life-threatening condition. - ➤ At the 18th Evergreen Country Estate pumpkin contest on Goss Road south of Port Angeles, residents Sabrina Mudd and Michele Stafford pushed the four large pumpkins weighing 151, 166, 84 and 115 pounds—champion Dawna Krause, who grew the 166-pound pumpkin, won a prize of coho salmon or two Dungeness crabs. - ➤ Clallam County is working on its 2026 budget after cutting a $3.258 million shortfall to $1.931 million with one-time revenue gains and spending cuts—County Administrator Todd Mielke said commissioners asked for a week to consider options that may avoid layoffs but could lead to job reductions later.
